About The Position

This role involves developing and implementing curriculum, preparing lessons that cater to individual student differences, and presenting subject matter according to established guidelines. The teacher will employ various instructional techniques, cooperate with staff on instructional goals, and plan assignments for support staff. The position also requires the use of technology, assisting students with study habits, assessing student progress, and potentially sponsoring extracurricular activities. A key aspect is serving as a positive role model, creating a conducive learning environment, and administering discipline according to school policies. The teacher will also be responsible for student safety, assisting in the selection of instructional materials, and maintaining open communication with students and parents. Professional conduct, ethical behavior, and compliance with district regulations are expected, along with participation in staff development and faculty meetings.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with appropriate certification for History.
  • Bachelor's degree in History or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Agency curriculum standards.
  • Ability to develop and implement lesson plans.
  • Skills in classroom management and student discipline.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in History or Education.
  • Experience teaching history at the secondary level.
  • Experience with extracurricular activities or sponsoring school clubs.
  • Familiarity with specific district policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, campus policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
