About The Position

Renaissance Historic Exteriors is seeking former solar installers to transition into historic preservation trades. We recognize that the skills acquired as a solar installer, such as comfort with heights, safety consciousness, understanding of roof systems, and precision work, are highly transferable to historic restoration. This program offers training alongside master craftsmen in slate, tile, copper, and historic preservation techniques, providing an opportunity to earn while learning a trade with long-term career depth. Historic restoration specialists are in high demand nationally, making this an upgrade to a specialized career.

Requirements

  • Comfort and competence at heights, on pitched surfaces, with fall-protection systems.
  • Experience with roof structure, weather sealing, and precision layout.
  • Safety culture and situational awareness.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a trained eye for system-level thinking.
  • Work ethic developed in a results-oriented, high-accountability environment.
  • Former solar installer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Historic roofing restoration with natural slate, clay tile, and architectural copper.
  • Performing flashing, waterproofing, and steep-slope techniques specific to landmark structures.
  • Hands-on work on State Capitols, churches, universities, and National Register properties.
  • Progression through an apprenticeship structure into a fully specialized historic tradesperson role.
