About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special examinations. Performs complex histological procedures using techniques to gross, embed, perform microtomy, and stain to make tissue slides used for diagnosis.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
Possess an HHS (Health and Human Services) approved certification, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in their field of work, or must be registry eligible upon hire and receive certification (Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HTL)) within twelve months.

Prior histology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Review slide quality.
Maintain and repair lab instruments.
Disinfect work area and stock supplies.
Ensure all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
Utilize self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice.
Utilize critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem solving.
Perform routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory.
Interact with all ages of client population.
Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care.
Assist in writing and reviewing current and new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures.
Take part and actively participate with quality assurance and performance improvement activities associated with the laboratory.
