About The Position

Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. This is a rare opportunity to join a highly specialized team of histology techs at Brigham and Womens Hospital, with the chance to learn new techniques while serving the patients of your community.

Requirements

  • Bachelors required
  • Clinical or Histology experience 1-2 years required
  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, and routine staining.
  • Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specimen collection, accessioning, and logging routines.
  • Assists pathologists with tissue grossing procedures.
  • Processes, embeds, and sections tissues for slides.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures such as oiling and cleaning microtomes according to schedule, recording temperatures on various instruments, changing the processor according to procedure, and changing staining solutions.
  • Ensures aseptic techniques and observes health and safety protocols during cleanup procedures to minimize risks to self and co-workers.
  • Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area.
