About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Histology Technician to join our team! This role performs the daily activities related to Histology. The technician ensures the validity of test results by performing calibrations, quality controls, and routine maintenance on all analyzers and manual tests. The position also involves providing excellent customer service on the phone and in person to patients, physicians, and other medical staff. The ideal candidate must work well under pressure, troubleshoot analyzers and equipment, prioritize specimens (STAT, Urgent, Routine, etc.), multitask, and be flexible to accommodate laboratory needs.

Requirements

• Current certification as HT- ASCP or HT-NCA or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license
• 2 years Histology technician required or equivalent experience
• Basic computer knowledge (Word and Excel) and skills in lab information systems
• Proactively conveys a clear, convincing, and timely message; possesses strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Perceives pertinent details in verbal or tabular material.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine Histology test procedures as outlined in the Histology standard operating procedure manuals and reports test results.
• Adheres to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing.
• Correlates clinical information and/or previous pathology results and reports discrepancies to the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor.
• Consults with the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor when no preset criterion for decision-making is available before taking action.
• Maintains and operates Histology lab equipment; able to detect malfunctions as they occur by review of instruments results.
• Troubleshoots the problem with technologist or service representative assistance.
• Ensures appropriate histology lab supplies are always on hand in their assigned area or department.
• Trains or instructs Histology laboratory personnel in performance of lab tests and procedures where assigned.
• Participates in established Quality Management activities, QC testing of Histology lab reagents and maintenance of equipment.
• Follows protocol for running and documenting control values.
• Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve histology laboratory performance.
• Attends and participates in continuing education programs to monitor proficiency, expand current knowledge and enhance professional excellence.
• Willingly shares knowledge and provides clinical orientation to other members of the lab team.
• Trains students from affiliated programs or new employees as assigned.
• Works closely with all laboratory personnel to ensure timely client service and accurate test results.
• Participates in Job Competency/Skills Check program.
