About The Position

Consolidated Pathology Nashville is hiring a Histology Technician/Grosser. This role implements the laboratory mission, goals, and objectives by exemplifying the short and long-term vision, values, and goals of the laboratory by providing professional service in the performance of job functions. The Histology Technician is responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research, and outside cases. They will assume responsibility for the quality of tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures. If qualified, the technician may perform tissue grossing as a non-pathologist grosser. The role also involves maintaining work area equipment and supplies, performing special techniques including special stains, and monitoring compliance with safety regulations. Other related duties as needed, indirectly overseeing the work of laboratory assistants, and potentially participating in the training of other lab personnel are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research and outside cases.
  • Quality of tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures.
  • Tissue grossing as non-pathologist grosser (if qualified).
  • Maintaining work area equipment supplies.
  • Performing special techniques including special stains.
  • Monitoring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Indirectly oversee the work of laboratory assistants.
  • Training of other lab personnel (may participate).

Responsibilities

  • Meets all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor, Laboratory Services and Assistant Manager, Laboratory Services.
