Requirements

  • Valid New York State Histologic Technician Certification or Valid NYS Medical Technician license Required prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Limited permit in lieu of license may be accepted.
  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
  • None required.
  • Ability to organize and establish day-to-day priorities while using critical thinking skills in all aspects of the job.
  • Must be able to multitask while remaining professional, focused, composed and positive.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens
  • Inputs patient demographics into computer
  • Reports results and maintains documentation.
  • Operates and maintains equipment used for embedding and sectioning
  • Follows safety requirements and appropriately handles and disposes of
  • Performs histological preparation of samples including the embedding, cutting and staining of tissue for pathology.
  • Performs special stains on tissue, including the operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in this task.
