About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Histology Technician/Technologist to join their Laboratory South department. This role is responsible for assisting with the processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. The position involves specialized staining and processing as requested by pathologists, troubleshooting instrument or equipment malfunctions, and ensuring specimen integrity. Critical thinking is required to assess questionable processes or results and correct them or present them to a supervisor/pathologist for resolution. The role requires strong organizational, customer relations, planning, and analytical skills, with a need for strong mental and visual concentration and good hand/eye coordination. The ability to work independently with sufficient knowledge of the Cytology department and strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Requirements

Histology Technologist Education: Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 90 days AND completion of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program OR one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology.
Histology Technologist Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Histotechnologist from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.
Histology Technician Education: Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the past five years OR 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) AND 1 full year of histopathology experience within the past five years (must have experience in fixation, embedding/microtomy, processing, staining, and laboratory operations) OR If licensed as a Histotechnician prior to 1/1/2005, High School Diploma or Equivalent AND two years’ histopathology experience.
Histology Technician Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Histotechnician from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Histology Technologist Experience: Preferred: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician Program or 2 years on the job training.
Histology Technician Experience: Preferred: 2 years' experience in histology.
