About The Position

This position is 32 hours per week with 8-hour shifts from 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The Histology Technician/Technologist will prepare, process, embed, cut, coverslip, stain, and mount tissue specimens for evaluation and examination by the pathologist. They will also perform special staining procedures, including IHC on tissue and quality control slides as requested. The role involves accessioning specimens for Pathology and Cytology in the computer, communicating with appropriate providers regarding specimen problems, and preparing GYN and Non-GYN cytology specimens and ordering molecular studies. Additionally, the technician will perform routine maintenance of equipment and instruments, maintain inventory, communicate ordering needs to the Clinical Specialist, and maintain a clean and safe work area. Attendance at laboratory meetings, in-service education meetings, and educational seminars is expected. The role includes picking up specimens regularly from all areas of the hospital, performing frozen sections, training new employees and intern staff, and disposing of specimens and hazardous chemicals correctly. Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • HT(ASCP) certified or Bachelor's degree (meeting CAP HT minimums for credit distribution) with pathology lab experience and successful completion of histology test at time of interview
  • Successful completion of histology certification within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities
