About The Position

Under limited supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. This role involves grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, and staining surgical, biopsy, and anatomical tissues for microscopic slide review. The technician will perform complex histologic procedures, analyze and correct problems using scientific principles, review and record data, and maintain instruments according to established protocols. Adherence to policies, procedures, and confidentiality is essential.

Requirements

  • Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
  • Recent experience working with a wide variety of tissues in a laboratory or clinical setting.
  • Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Five (5) years of histological experience is required.
  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.

  • Performs complex histologic procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using established scientific principles.
  • Reviews, records and analyzes data in order to make judgments.
  • Maintains instruments, utilizing established protocols.
  • Follows established policies and procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
