About The Position

Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. This role does not involve direct patient care. The Histology Technician II will perform specimen collection, accessioning and logging routines, and assist pathologists with tissue grossing procedures. They will also be responsible for processing, embedding, and sectioning tissues for slides, as well as performing preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures on instruments. Ensuring aseptic techniques and observing health and safety protocols are crucial for minimizing risks. The technician must also observe hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices, maintaining a safe, clean, and prepared work area.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Clinical or Histology experience 1-2 years required
Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcifications, processing, embedding, routine and special stains and frozen sections.
Must be able to perform certain special stains (i.e. Oil Red O).
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
Participates in relevant continuing education programs.

Responsibilities

Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area.
