About The Position
Leadership position within the Histology section of the laboratory. The Histology Manager demonstrates the ability to perform essential functions and responsibilities with knowledge, competency, and appropriateness to the ages of patients and customers served.
Requirements
- Five years of hospital experience as a medical technologist.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the MS Office suite of products.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing using advanced writing skills.
- B.S. in Medical Technology or a related science.
- NYS DOH license.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Histology staff to ensure compliance with SOPs and accuracy of specimen handling and results.
- Coordinate workload, schedule technical staff, and assist with pre- and post-analytical processes as needed, including waste management.
- Advise and assist staff with daily workflow and maintain flexible work hours to ensure department coverage.
- Perform microtomy and staining as needed.
- Cut, embed, and stain frozen sections, surgical samples, and autopsy samples; assist with FNA collection as needed.
- Prepare solutions and use them to perform special stains.
- Manage statistics, performance improvement and quality reports, and inventory control.
- Maintain department SOPs and author SOPs as needed.
- Troubleshoot instruments and notify BioMed or the instrumentation company of required repairs.
- Follow St. John's Riverside Hospital attendance policy.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
