About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histology Laboratory Supervisor to join our grossing team in San Diego, CA. This role involves managing the daily operations of an assigned laboratory group, ensuring efficient and accurate specimen handling, testing, and result reporting. The supervisor will oversee workflow, schedule staff, troubleshoot issues, and directly manage, train, and mentor laboratory testing personnel. This position also focuses on continuous process improvement, equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The role requires performing bench work as needed and staying updated on industry trends. Regular meetings with direct reports for coaching, feedback, and career development are essential, along with conducting performance reviews and fostering a positive team environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 3 years or more prior histology experience
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more leadership experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • Current or prior Labcorp experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of assigned laboratory group to ensure that specimens are properly shipped and received, tests are performed accurately and efficiently, and results are reported in a timely manner
  • Monitor daily workflow in the lab, plan/ schedule for adequate assay coverage, and troubleshoot/ escalate problems, as necessary
  • Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory testing staff
  • Assist with the hiring of qualified, enthusiastic employees, including technical and non-technical team members
  • Monitor time tracking system for employees and ensuring attendance expectations are being met
  • Engage in continuous process and service improvement
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and decision making
  • Ensure QC and maintenance of all laboratory equipment
  • Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations based on thorough evaluation of technical, quality and efficiency impact
  • Assist with monitoring sample progression and respond to sample status inquiries from customer service as needed
  • Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations
  • Ensure all work is in accordance with state and Federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation/compliance requirements
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, local trends, and any emergency management
  • Meet regularly with direct reports. Provide coaching and constructive feedback, and career development discussions.
