About The Position

Regional West Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Histology Assistant to support the daily operations of the laboratory. This role is essential in ensuring specimens are accurately received, processed, and prepared for histological examination. Histology Assistants play a vital role in maintaining specimen integrity and supporting pathologists and laboratory staff in delivering high-quality patient care.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Ability to stand and move throughout assigned work areas for extended periods
Ability to handle and process specimens in accordance with laboratory standards
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to accurately perform repetitive tasks and maintain documentation
Ability to work with laboratory chemicals and equipment following safety guidelines
Basic computer and data entry skills
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Flexibility to meet laboratory workload demands

Nice To Haves

Coursework in biology, laboratory science, or a related field preferred
Relevant laboratory certification preferred but not required
Previous laboratory, healthcare, or histology experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Assist with the receipt, identification, accessioning, and preparation of tissue specimens for histological processing.
Prepare specimens, label and organize materials, and operate laboratory equipment.
Ensure all specimens are handled according to established procedures.
Maintain laboratory quality standards by following safety protocols, documenting specimen information accurately, and assisting with equipment maintenance and supply inventory.
Work closely with pathologists, histotechnicians, and other laboratory professionals to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround of specimens.
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
