About The Position

The Vicariate Hispanic Ministry Coordinator, under the leadership of the Diocesan Director of Hispanic Ministry, belongs to a Team that shares the mission to oversee and support all areas of Hispanic ministry within the Diocese of Charlotte, while assisting the Pastors and parish communities in developing, coordinating, and administering an effective ministry for the Catholic Hispanic community. The Coordinator is tasked with fostering a greater understanding of the needs of a multi-cultural faith community; and providing leadership formation to members at the local level involved in this ministry with the goal of maintaining and fortifying the Catholic faith. The Hispanic Ministry Coordinator aids the Pastors of the Vicariate in the implementation of the USCCB’s National Hispanic Pastoral Plan.

Requirements

  • Formation/Certification in Hispanic Pastoral Leadership (S.E.P.I., Notre Dame, Catholic University)
  • Minimum of 2-4 years working in Hispanic Ministry at the parish level.
  • 2+ years working in Hispanic Ministry at the diocesan level.
  • Must be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Must possess basic computer knowledge, including the MS Office suite.
  • Strong listening, empathy, and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and familiarity with social media.

Nice To Haves

  • Pastoral experience in working with multiple cultures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany the Hispanic Faithful in their journey of Faith.
  • Serve as a resource for the Pastors of the parishes within the vicariate.
  • Be in close communication and dialogue with the Pastors in the parishes.
  • Offer diocesan resources available for Formation and Continuing Education to the parish Hispanic catechists, such as Baptism preparation, Pre-Cana, Faith Formation for children and youth, Parish leadership, OCIA, Leaders of Apostolic groups, and Youth Ministry.
  • Offer preparation for liturgical ministries, workshops for Lectors, Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, ushers, etc.
  • Offer training in Family crisis support, ranging from difficulties such as homebound persons, terminal illness situations, grief support ministry (Pastoral de Duelo), matrimony problems support (Acompañantes Matrimoniales), and other culturally specific needs.
  • Prepare and guide days of reflection and retreats.
  • Assist the Pastor in reaching out to the Hispanic population that cannot participate in weekly Mass and parish life with the objective of fortifying the Catholic faith.
  • Maintain the financial records for the Vicariate Hispanic Ministry programs and projects.
  • Present their budget to the Vicar Forane for review.
  • Help with the Safe Environment program.
  • Work as an integral member of a Team under the Vision and Direction of the Director of Hispanic Ministry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
