About The Position

The HIM Technician performs multiple functions within the department under general supervision, while maintaining patient privacy and following HIPAA rules. The HIM technician collaborates with others in the department to complete various responsibilities.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s Degree preferred
• Health care license preferred
• Certification or willingness to pursue certification in Health Information Management/Medical Records is preferred
• Previous experience in physician clinic
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record
• 1 year preferred experience

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests for disclosure of protected health information
• Collect and enter data for birth certificates
• Scan and index paper records into Epic
• Abstract clinical information into Epic
• Perform medical record analysis
• Prepare and submit records for audits and care gap closures
• Additional duties as assigned
