About The Position

Florida Rehabilitation Hospital at Tampa, opening February 2025, is seeking a Health Information Specialist. This role involves prepping, scanning, and indexing patient records, analyzing record completion, releasing patient health information, and providing customer service to internal and external requesters. The position requires safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required in the following states only: Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado
• One year prior experience in a hospital medical records department
• Strong computer experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Detail-oriented, able to meet strict time frames

Nice To Haves

• Experience with electronic medical records preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepping, scanning, and indexing patient records
• Analyzing and reporting record completion
• Releasing patient health information
• Providing department customer service to physicians, quality/risk, other internal departments, and external requesters
• Safeguarding and protecting the patient's right to privacy
• Ensuring all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations
