About The Position

The HIM Scan Center Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate patient identification on all documents, removing incorrectly labeled documents, scanning loose documents into patient charts, and handling requests for information. This role involves answering phones, managing the fax machine, and assisting walk-in patients with medical record requests. The specialist must enter and release requests in Epic in a timely manner and communicate effectively with requestors to ensure accuracy. This position is part of the Health Information Management department at Scotland Memorial Hospital and is a full-time role with various shifts.

Responsibilities

Identify and ensure correct patient identifiers (Medical Record Number - MRN), Encounter Number, and patient name, throughout the documents.
Remove any incorrectly labeled documents from the chart.
Ensure all documents in Media Manager are labeled correctly with correct patient identifiers and scan any loose documents into patient charts.
Scan any documents that are missing from Media Manager.
Answer phones, check fax machine and handle walk-in patient requests.
Enter medical record requests in Epic and release requests in a timely manner.
Communicate with requestors to obtain as much information required to ensure accurate release of information.
