About The Position

This role involves performing quality hospital coding on Inpatient accounts, including Medicare/Non Medicare, Surgical, Medical, Cardiac, moms/babies, and trauma cases. The coder will maintain a working knowledge of ICD-10 PCS, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing. The position requires ensuring all services documented in the patient’s chart are coded with appropriate ICD-10/PCS codes and seeking proper documentation when services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately. The coder must achieve and maintain 96% accuracy in coding while maintaining a high level of productivity, with an average productivity standard of 1 IP chart per hour final coded. Responsibilities also include following facility-specific policies and procedures, working pending queues daily, following the facility query policy and CDI reconciliation process, correcting and communicating charts that require re-bills, reporting coder downtime immediately, and providing accurate answers to physician’s/hospitals coding and/or billing questions within eight hours of request.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must hold one of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS
  • 5+ years of Inpatient Facility coding experience

Nice To Haves

  • Rehab Inpatient Facility coding experience with admissions (IRF/PAI) & discharges
  • Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology
  • Associates Degree

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a working knowledge of ICD-10 PCS, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing
  • Assure that all services documented in the patient’s chart are coded with appropriate ICD-10/PCS codes
  • Seek to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards when services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately
  • Achieve and maintain 96% accuracy in coding while maintaining a high level of productivity
  • Maintain average productivity standards of 1 IP charts per hour final coded
  • Responsible for following facility specific policies and procedures
  • Work pending queues daily
  • Follow facility query policy and CDI reconciliation process
  • Correct and communicate charts that require re-bills to the facility daily for the re-bill process
  • Report coder downtime immediately to the administrative staff to ensure turnaround is met
  • Provide accurate answers to physician’s/hospitals coding and/or billing questions within eight hours of request
