About The Position

Clive Behavioral Health is seeking a Health Information (Coder) to join their records management team. This role ensures the quality maintenance of patient information and medical records in compliance with all laws, regulations, and TJC standards. The primary responsibility is assigning accurate ICD-10-CM codes upon patient discharge for both inpatient and outpatient services. The coder will also communicate with physicians regarding coding questions and will have Health Information Analyst responsibilities, contributing to the maintenance of all patient medical records within the Health Information Services Department. Clive Behavioral Health provides compassionate inpatient and outpatient care for individuals with behavioral health or co-occurring disorders, aiming to help patients achieve their personal treatment goals in a secure, healing environment. The facility is a 100-bed stand-alone mental health hospital, also offering intensive outpatient programming for adolescents and adults with substance use disorders.

Requirements

Graduation from a medical records program preferred; high school graduate or equivalent required.
At least one (1) to 5 years’ inpatient/outpatient coding and healthcare management/medical records experience preferred.
At least 1 year of behavioral health hospital preferred but not required.

Nice To Haves

RHIT, RHIA or CCS preferred and/or other coder specialist certifications.

Responsibilities

Assigning accurate ICD-10-CM codes upon patient discharge (inpatient and outpatient).
Communicating with physicians for any related coding questions.
Carrying out activities of the Health Information Services Department in the maintenance of all patient medical records.
Ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and TJC standards for the quality of patient care.
