About The Position

This role is responsible for the registration and completion of fetal birth and fetal death certificates in accordance with regulatory standards. The HIM Associate II also maintains and monitors production performed by the transcription service and performs chart maintenance activities. This includes chart analysis based on medical staff bylaws, DNV, TJC, or other regulatory agency documentation requirements, and assigning deficiencies to clinical providers for resolution. The role also investigates accounts missing documentation needed for coding and billing, and performs activities related to the release of information, including processing patient requests for record amendments and record certification. Additionally, the HIM Associate II releases medical information to patients, attorneys, insurance companies, and other requestors in accordance with HIPAA, state, and federal laws.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • 2 years of experience in health information management in an acute care setting or graduate of an HIM program Required

Nice To Haves

  • Medical transcription experience Preferred
  • Prior experience using Epic is Preferred
