By joining our Nelson County Unit as a Highway Technician Superintendent I in Nelson County, you’ll have the opportunity to supervise staff performing highway maintenance programs for 305 miles of state-maintained roadways in Nelson County. Summary of Responsibilities: Supervise and assist highway employees in maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, landslide repairs, etc Maintain records and reports such as inventory reports, employee performance evaluations Respond and properly supervise snow and ice removal and other emergencies. Lead crews and work in all types of weather and as a team. Assist the Highway Technician Superintendent II with assigning daily work assignments Ideal candidate will have experience in: Coordinating daily work orders and assignments Computer experience with Microsoft Office Communicating with the public, other public agencies, and elected officials. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must be able to respond to emergencies. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have ten years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
