By joining our Project Delivery and Preservation Branch II as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Spencer County, you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment used in road construction and maintenance such as, single axle truck (dump, flatbed, pickup), snow plow, and salt spreaders.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Ability to perform general labor work.
  • Willingness to work outdoors.
  • Must be able to work, sit, stoop and bend.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Drivers License.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

Responsibilities

  • Use construction equipment to maintain roads.
  • Use equipment to control vegetation along roads.
  • Use equipment to perform snow removal on highways.
  • Use equipment to spread salt on the highways to prevent icing.
  • Flag for traffic control
