About The Position

The Permanent Highway Technician 1 (HT1) position is with the Ohio Department of Transportation, specifically for Cuyahoga County - East Side (Warrensville & Euclid). This role is crucial for public service and contributes to making Ohio's roads safer. Responsibilities include performing various highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing. The technician will also participate in snow and ice operations to ensure safe travel during winter conditions. The State of Ohio is committed to disability inclusion and is a drug-free workplace. The position is subject to federal drug and alcohol regulations, including registration in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse, and prohibits the use of marijuana, including medical marijuana, for final applicants.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary
  • 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (or Class A CDL With Tanker Endorsement)
  • Undergo a criminal background check
  • Undergo urinalysis to test for illegal drug use before appointment
  • Register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Authorized to work in the United States
