About The Position

The Highway Technician 1 serves the public and helps make Ohio roads safer by performing highway maintenance and snow and ice operations. Work includes flagging, pothole patching, guardrail repair, litter pickup, and mowing. These seasonal, temporary positions are limited to 1,000 hours and are based in Painesville, Ohio. Work hours depend on operational needs; nights, weekends, holidays, on-call duty, and overtime may be required. The position is overtime-eligible under FLSA standards. Final candidates must undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment urinalysis. The role is also subject to federal drug and alcohol testing requirements, and selected applicants must register with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Requirements

• Formal education in arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, decimals, percentages, and fractions.
• Ability to read, write, and speak common English vocabulary.
• Three months of training or experience operating basic equipment.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and no airbrake restriction.
• Must hold the appropriate level of valid Commercial Driver's License to operate motorized equipment regulated by Section 4506 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Must undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment urinalysis.
• Must register as a driver in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
