About The Position

The Highway Technician 1 serves the public and helps make Ohio roads safer by performing highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing. The position also performs snow and ice operations. Work hours are based on operational need. The position is overtime eligible under FLSA standards and is subject to a one-year probationary period for bargaining-unit new hires. The role is classified and covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME contract. The selected candidate must undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment urinalysis. The position is subject to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations, and selected applicants must register as drivers in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Requirements

• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and without an airbrake restriction.
• Formal education in arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, decimals, percentages, and fractions.
• Ability to read, write, and speak common English vocabulary.
• Three months of training or experience in operating basic equipment, or an equivalent of the stated minimum qualifications.
• Must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License at the appropriate level to operate regulated motorized equipment.
