Highway Shop Mechanic
About The Position
In this Highway Shop Mechanic role, you start your day evaluating equipment that keeps the county running, troubleshooting issues, performing repairs, and ensuring everything operates safely and efficiently. You communicate with the Shop Foreman, operators, and team members to identify concerns, then take action by sourcing parts, managing inventory, and even delivering supplies to outlying shops. Throughout the day, you maintain a clean, organized workspace, coordinate with vendors, and determine the best repair or fabrication approach. Whether you're stepping in to operate equipment or filling in for leadership, your role evolves with the seasons and weather, keeping every day dynamic and meaningful.
Requirements
- Class B CDL required (Class A within 1 year of hire)
- 1–3 years of hands-on diesel or heavy equipment repair experience
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree or technical certification in Diesel Mechanics/Heavy Equipment
- Mechanical Systems or related degree
- Additional technical experience in equipment operations
