About The Position

The Highway Engineer Position will work with our clients and the highway team leader to design and detail plans on a variety of Local, State and County highways. There will be opportunities to engage projects at all stages of design and construction including feasibility and preliminary design where design decisions and input are invaluable, roadway design including alignments and superelevation, grading, drainage design, work zone traffic control, traffic signals, signage and pavement markings, pavement cross sections, permitting, bidding, and construction administration. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in highway/roadway design, preferably with EIT, PE is a plus
  • Strong knowledge and experience in local and state highway/roadway design, pavement design, drainage system evaluation, intersection design, turning lane warrants, maintenance/ protection of traffic plans, and NYSDOT specifications/ details.
  • Knowledge of NYSDOT highway design manual and specifications
  • Microstation and/or Open Roads Designer experience a must
  • Good technical writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge in plan and specification preparation
  • Self-motivated, organized, and open to learning new and innovative design procedures and methods

Nice To Haves

  • Traffic analysis and studies experience and signal design experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Evaluate, select and adapt standard techniques, procedures and criteria to solve technical issues.
  • Prepare basic and advanced engineering designs and/or technical data for completion and accuracy.
  • Provide advanced judgement and analysis techniques to prepare complete project documents including design reports and final plan sets
  • Perform engineering quantity takeoffs and create construction costs estimates.
  • Assist with proposal development for professional services.
  • Perform field investigations/site visits as needed and prepare reports.
  • Interpret and follow scopes of work, budgets, and schedules, completing projects within budget and on time.
  • Analyze and interpret data, formulate and solve problems
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure project success.
  • Design complete projects, systems, components or processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standards including MUTCD, AASHTO and NYSDOT.
