About The Position

Manage the assets of the maintenance operation unit which include; develop, implement, and monitor annual work program while meeting commitments of schedule and budget. Compose strategic plans to align with goals, supervise staff; accountable for incident response and management and winter operations. Operate and maintain roadway system, components and features as well as Departments heavy equipment fleet. Provide input for the project development process: recommend locations for new construction and spot improvement projects. Work with the Superintendent and the Assistant District Engineer. Will respond to emergency callouts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Overtime will be required to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED, Three (3) years experience as a Highway Operations Tech II; OR two (2) years as a Highway Operations Tech III, OR one (1) year as a Highway Operations Tech IV.
  • Required training or equivalency Supervisor Training in Accident Reduction Techniques (START), Equipment Operator, Training and Evaluation Program, Maintenance Supervisor Training.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, execute and adjust annual work program.
  • Monitors operations work plan implementation to ensure quality, timeliness and proper performance of operations activities.
  • Schedule highway operations technicians, equipment, materials, and contracts needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Oversees maintenance and OOE expenditures for compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the work crews to safely and efficiently perform highway operation work, operate equipment and respond to incidents.
  • Performs performance appraisals and initiate disciplinary actions.
  • Monitor unit budget to ensure expenditures are within guidelines for work accomplished and in compliance with procurement policies.
