The Office of the County Engineer provides a variety of important services to the traveling public, funded by license plates and gasoline taxes. These services include the design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and study of 423 bridges and over 500 miles of public right-of-way to ensure safety improvements and compliance with State law. Under general supervision, the Highway Maintenance Worker performs general highway maintenance duties, repairs and installs guardrails, cuts shrubs and trees, mows grass, removes refuse and trash, assists in snow and ice removal activities, operates center-line machine and various other equipment, fabricates, installs, maintains and repairs road signs, operates tractor mower, and performs routine maintenance and repair on trucks.
