About The Position

The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace that prohibits the use of marijuana. This position may be subject to additional restrictions and requires a criminal background check and urinalysis. Selected applicants must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. The final candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet minimum qualifications. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for building and maintaining Ohio's extensive transportation system, including the nation's 5th largest interstate system and 3rd largest number of bridges. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for Highway Maintenance Worker 1).
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction, decimals, percentages & fractions (for Highway Technician 1).
  • 3 months of training or 3 months of experience in the operation of basic equipment (for Highway Technician 1).
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for Highway Technician 1).

Nice To Haves

  • Already a licensed CDL holder.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
