About The Position

This position supervises a crew of personnel and manages assigned work activities in the Oberlin Maintenance Unit (D07 Maintenance Section/U580) and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Requirements

• Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.
• Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements
• Random drug testing is required
• Computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties
• Night-time operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours
• Lifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance

Responsibilities

• Supervises the Mobile Equipment Operators performing maintenance to the highways and bridges.
• Prepares daily labor and equipment report.
• Orders materials daily.
• Guides and instructs assigned personnel to see that Highway Standards are met.
• Conducts routine administration meetings and training.
• Works emergencies at night.
• May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
