About The Position

WSP is seeking Transmission Line & Civil Inspectors in Nevada. This is a field-based position requiring inspections of transmission lines and civil projects across the state. The role involves ensuring construction compliance with plans, specifications, utility standards, and regulatory requirements (NESC, OSHA, NERC). Responsibilities include inspecting overhead and underground transmission line construction, foundations, substations, and associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical installations. The inspector will generate detailed reports, daily logs, and non-conformance documentation, ensuring adherence to safety, constructability, reliability, and system performance standards. This role is part of a growing organization focused on shaping the future of energy systems.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 9 years of relevant post-education experience in a related discipline with demonstrated construction inspection experience on electric utility, power delivery, or transmission line projects, including overhead and/or underground transmission.
5+ years of active field experience.
Computer skills (to properly fill out daily and weekly reports).
Capable of photo documentation.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles and field inspection practices, including HV/EHV transmission line inspection methods, QA/QC procedures, documentation, and compliance verification.
Strong analytical and technical judgment skills with the ability to evaluate transmission line construction conditions, safety concerns, quality issues, and compliance risks, and make sound field decisions.
Demonstrated self-leadership and field autonomy, with strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation quality, multitasking, and prioritization in a fast-paced transmission construction environment.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply technical knowledge, inspection results, testing data, and field observations to reach sound conclusions and recommend practical, economical, and code-compliant solutions.
Must have current and valid driver’s license.
Proficient in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and comparing with the customer or engineers’ standards.
Proficient in both verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate well with others at all levels of the organization.
Able and willing to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time for a project.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day.
Must be able to wear company-provided PPE for the entire shift while onsite.
Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs or more at any given time throughout the day.
Must be able to walk on average 3 to 5 miles per day across rough terrain and/or unlevel surfaces.
Ability to step in and out of a 3/4-ton pickup truck several times a day.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of transmission line work, foundations and stringing of conductors, and transmission substations and facilities are strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform transmission line inspections and civil inspections.
Ensure electric utility, transmission line, and power delivery construction compliance with approved plans, specifications, utility standards, contract documents, and regulatory and codified requirements (including NESC, OSHA, NERC, and utility construction standards).
Perform field inspections of overhead and underground transmission line construction projects, including transmission structures, foundations, drilled shafts, concrete placement, conductor stringing, sagging and clipping, insulators, hardware assemblies, grounding systems, ROW access roads, and environmental compliance.
Inspect substation interfaces, underground duct banks, vaults, and high-voltage cable installations, as well as associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical installations.
Generate accurate inspection reports, daily logs, non-conformance documentation, and photo records related to assigned aspects of HV/EHV transmission line construction and power delivery projects.
Ensure all responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for electric transmission safety, constructability, reliability, and system performance.
Provide technical assistance and guidance supporting the proper construction, installation, and operation of transmission lines, foundations, structures, access roads, infrastructure, equipment, and associated civil, structural, and electrical systems in accordance with approved utility and project design specifications.
Act as a field inspection consultant regarding work progress, constructability, and issue resolution.
Serve as the primary or sole transmission line inspector on assigned projects or assist in overseeing HV/EHV construction inspection activities for projects of moderate scope and complexity.
Verify load calculations, foundation designs, material quantities, change orders, and contract pay items.
Interpret and resolve differences related to transmission line plans, profiles, structure details, and construction specifications.
Monitor project phasing, outage coordination, and contractor work activities to ensure quality control, safety compliance, and adherence to utility and contract requirements.
Document daily activities, deficiencies, corrective actions, and issues throughout the transmission line construction lifecycle.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Attend pre-construction, safety, and coordination meetings.
Respond to technical questions from contractors, utility representatives, and project stakeholders regarding inspection requirements and construction standards.
Prepare technical inspection reports summarizing findings and conclusions, producing complete and accurate documentation using photographs, sketches, field measurements, calculations, inspection software, spreadsheets, and 2D/3D technical drawings related to HV/EHV transmission line construction.
Support technical staff, project managers, and contractors with risk identification, safety observations, and constructability assessments, providing input and recommendations for mitigation, corrective action, and resolution of complex transmission line construction issues.
Assist with work plan development, field coordination, staffing reviews, equipment utilization, and time and cost estimates for transmission line inspection and construction support activities.
Coordinate with clients, utilities, and contractors to schedule and manage inspection activities across multiple transmission line work fronts.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
