About The Position

At Continuous Composites Inc., we are redefining what is possible in advanced manufacturing. Our unique CF3D® technology for composite 3D printing opens new frontiers in Aerospace and Defense. We thrive on innovation, rapid iteration, and empowering every team member to take initiative and drive breakthrough solutions. Our mission is to transform industrial manufacturing through pioneering research, creative problem-solving, and relentless execution. Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and hands-on materials engineer who is excited to lead and execute R&D initiatives in the high-temperature environment of hypersonics. The ideal candidate will have experience with ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), including design, testing, analysis, and reporting associated with components in an operational environment (OE) and/or that are part of a program-of-record (POR). The ideal candidate will be comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance the state-of-the-art. If you are a strong engineer who seeks the rewarding challenge of developing new and cutting-edge technology, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in composites engineering, with a strong focus on high-temperature materials (e.g., carbon-carbon, ceramic matrix composites, refractory metals, fiber layout, PIP & CVI densification, optimization of pyrolysis cycles).
  • Proven track record in leading R&D projects, preferably funded by government grants.
  • Experience with material characterization techniques (thermal, mechanical, microstructural, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills for proposal development, report writing, and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members.
  • Strong background in statistics and problem-solving techniques.
  • Passion and creativity in test design and execution.
  • Must be willing to relocate to our Coeur D'Alene location.
  • Qualified candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Candidates need to be lawfully able to work on ITAR or controlled information which requires that the applicant be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 CFR 120.62.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or materials engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field desired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D projects focused on ceramic matrix composite preforms, including material selection, processing, characterization, and performance evaluation for hypersonic environments.
  • Design and implement experimental protocols for testing and validating new materials and processes.
  • Design parts with optimized ply schedules and architectures based on densification methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, process, software, controls) to execute multi-year product development plans.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in high-temperature composites and hypersonic systems.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards throughout the research process.
