About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (CAVA) is a network of 9 public charter schools providing online/virtual home-based instruction to students in grades TK-12 across California. Utilizing K12, inc. curriculum and the Engageli platform for live instruction, CAVA offers a unique educational environment. While providing some scheduling flexibility, students are expected to log in daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. High School teachers manage a caseload of both content and homeroom students, delivering standards-based instruction, providing targeted support, and grading work within three days. They build relationships with homeroom students through daily sessions, monthly outreach, and by monitoring attendance, progress, and engagement, intervening as needed. Teachers are required to plan and attend in-person outings and events, and are encouraged to have local homeroom students. Communication with learning coaches and families occurs regularly via telephone, web conferencing, and email. Teachers conduct quarterly parent/teacher/student conferences, attend virtual meetings, participate in PLCs, data conferencing, and professional development (both virtual and in-person). Face-to-face tutoring and other in-person opportunities with students may occur. All teachers are responsible for proctoring state testing.
