About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (CAVA) is a network of 9 public charter schools providing online/virtual home-based instruction to students in grades TK-12 across California. Utilizing K12, inc. curriculum and the Engageli platform for live instruction, CAVA offers a unique educational experience. While providing scheduling flexibility, students are still required to engage daily with coursework and attend instructional sessions. High School teachers manage a caseload of both content and homeroom students, delivering standards-based instruction in virtual classrooms, providing one-to-one support, and grading assignments within three days. They build relationships with homeroom students through daily sessions, monthly outreach, and by monitoring attendance, progress, and engagement, implementing interventions as needed. Teachers are expected to plan and attend in-person outings and events, often with locally assigned homeroom students. Communication with learning coaches and families is conducted via telephone, web conferencing, and email. Quarterly parent/teacher/student conferences, virtual meetings, PLCs, data conferencing, and professional development (virtual and in-person) are integral parts of the role. Face-to-face tutoring and other in-person opportunities may occur, and all teachers are required to proctor state testing.
