ABOUT INSIGHT SCHOOLS OF CALIFORNIA AND THE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER AND THE ACADEMIC ADVISOR POSITIONS:

Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based-instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day.

All teachers provide students additional help, individualized attention, and ongoing communication with learning coaches, and all attend professional development meetings (virtual and in person). Insight staff and teachers contribute to a positive school culture by engaging in meaningful team collaboration and focusing on the needs of all students. Teachers also meet with students during testing and at in-person events.

Content teachers create standards-based lessons and meet with their students throughout the week in their virtual classrooms to provide direct and targeted instruction. Teachers regularly analyze student data to create action plans to support students. Content teachers meet as department and content teams to collaborate and share best practices. They are also responsible for the set up of their online courses, the scheduling of live sessions, gradebook maintenance, student support, and the completion of all tasks associated with the start and end of terms.

Overview:

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.

Summary:

Our Virtual High School Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. The Virtual Teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content in an online, virtual environment.

Requirements

• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity
• Must hold a valid California Single Subject Teaching credential in Social Science
• California English Learner Authorization
• Permanent California Residence (within 1 of the 22 CA counties we hire in)
• Valid/current California Single Subject teaching credential in Social Science
• California English Learner Authorization- Issued by CTC

Responsibilities

• Orienting students to their courses and communicating course and school requirements. This includes communicating via email, phone, in person and online classroom.
• Support homeroom students with general school information, schedule set-up, monitor student attendance and progress throughout the program. The homeroom teacher is a high school student’s first point of contact when an issue arises. The relationship between the homeroom teacher, student and family is vital to the success of our students. Live session support is provided to homeroom students who are struggling academically.
• Provide small group and direct instruction to students of course content.
• Participate in instructional coaching and develop instruction to address coaching goals.
• Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.
• Implement student’s IEP’s and attend IEP conferences as needed.
• Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions as deemed appropriate.
• Face to Face meetings with students and teaching adult as scheduled. This may include in person or an online classroom meeting.
• Grade student work and enter grades into an online grade book in a timely manner (no more than 3 days without an update in grade book).
• Ensure all communication with families is documented according to school policies.
• Meet with regional lead teacher and/or curriculum specialist to discuss student data and set goals and actions for remediation. Instruction should be provided based on those action items.
• Follow all school policies
• Participate in State Testing- this includes but is not limited to: o Proctoring throughout testing window and all other state mandated and school required assessments o Assigning students to test sites o Following up with students who have not tested and make arrangements for makeup testing. o Assisting site coordinator o Following up with student, parent and/or administrator if there are issues o Organizing testing materials
• Contribute to and complete student progress and report cards.
• Hold Parent Teacher Conferences/ Check In Calls with homeroom families quarterly.
• Communicate with parents as needed; this includes but is not limited to: o Calling student o Emailing students and parents o Meeting students and parents synchronously, both online and in-person o Returning phone calls and emails as soon as possible but no longer than 24 hours
• Collaborate with other instructional teachers and support team.
• Organize orientation, training, social, and educational activities for students and families including attending community building activities such as school outings, college tours, and other events.
• Travel regularly within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities and events such as Teacher Collaboration Days and Student Orientations.
• Communicate with teachers, support staff, and Administration as needed. This includes but is not limited to calling and/or emailing teachers and Administration as needed and within 24 hours.
• Must attend all in person meetings as scheduled.
• Other duties as assigned.
