About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (CAVA) is a network of 9 public charter schools providing online/virtual home-based instruction to students in grades TK-12 across California. Utilizing K12, Inc. curriculum and the Engageli platform for live instruction, CAVA offers a unique educational experience. While providing scheduling flexibility, students are still expected to engage daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. High School teachers manage a caseload of both content and homeroom students. They deliver standards-based instruction in virtual classrooms, provide targeted support, offer one-to-one assistance, and grade assignments within three days. Teachers also build relationships with homeroom students through daily sessions, monthly outreach, and by monitoring attendance, progress, and engagement, providing interventions as needed. Local assignment of homeroom students is prioritized, as teachers must plan for and attend in-person outings and events. Communication with learning coaches and families is conducted regularly via phone, web conferencing, and email. Teachers conduct quarterly parent/teacher/student conferences, attend virtual meetings, and participate in PLCs, data conferencing, and professional development, both virtually and in-person. Face-to-face tutoring and other in-person opportunities with students may occur. All teachers are required to proctor state testing.
