About The Position
Blackstone Academy Charter School in Pawtucket, RI is seeking a talented educator to fill a full-time Special Education teaching position for the 2026-27 academic year. This dynamic educational setting strives to meet the needs of all learners while creating an exciting, collegial atmosphere where teachers can grow as leaders. The school is committed to supporting teachers in both individual and professional development. Our public charter high school serves 350 diverse students from Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, RI, admitted through a blind lottery. Students are challenged to excel in a rigorous and supportive environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. Candidates should be comfortable developing curricula, working closely with colleagues, and possess a strong understanding of relevant Common Core State Standards and other secondary standards utilized in RI. As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Faculty and staff consciously integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into the curriculum, so applicants should have a firm understanding of its importance. In addition to managing a full teaching load, this teacher will likely instruct one of the school's signature Community Improvement Projects (CIPs), which are project-based learning activities at the heart of the school’s approach to applying learned skills to local community problems. CIPs are graduation-required, and teachers receive significant support in developing and running them.
Requirements
- Rhode Island secondary certification, or eligibility to acquire it.
- Background in science and math.
- Strong understanding of all the relevant Common Core State Standards and other secondary standards utilized in RI.
- Familiarity with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles.
- Firm understanding of the importance and power of SEL.
- Commitment to understanding and working with a diverse student body.
- Awareness of how poverty can impact families and students.
Responsibilities
