About The Position

Greenspire School is seeking a full-time High School Special Education Teacher to join their team. The school offers a unique educational program for high school students (grades 6th-12th) focused on purposeful connections between individuals, communities, and the environment. The Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering instruction, collaborating with other instructors on project-based learning, and providing specialized support to students with special needs. The Special Education Teacher will ensure students receive appropriate educational services and accommodations, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, including experience developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices and research related to special education and disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Develop assessments and evaluate student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Deliver direct instruction to students in various settings, including one-on-one, small group, and co-taught classrooms, using evidence-based strategies tailored to students' learning profiles.
  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other school staff to ensure that students with special needs are included in all aspects of school life.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices and research related to special education and disabilities.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Supervision of multiple students at once.
  • Establishing routines and procedures.
  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
  • Create and implement instructional plans.
  • Participate in continuous professional development.
