About The Position

Mid-Pacific is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to join our Science Department. This position includes teaching Human Anatomy, multiple levels of Biology, and elective science courses, with the potential to teach International Baccalaureate (IB) Biology and IB Environmental Systems and Societies. We are looking for an educator who inspires intellectual curiosity, builds meaningful relationships with students, and embraces a collaborative, inquiry-driven approach aligned with the principles of deeper learning. Science faculty are responsible for creating engaging, supportive learning environments that foster student growth, achievement, and motivation. Teachers design rigorous, relevant, and authentic learning experiences that help students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for success in college, career, and life. Through real-world applications and student-centered instruction, faculty empower learners to think critically, solve complex problems, and make meaningful connections across disciplines. Essential to this role is the ability to cultivate positive partnerships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community members in support of student learning and well-being. Faculty are active contributors to the life of the school and participate fully in advancing Mid-Pacific�s commitment to deeper learning and the development of our Learner Profile. This position reports directly to the High School Assistant Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science from an accredited university or college
  • At least two years teaching experience in high school science is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with project-based instruction and/or International Baccalaureate preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach competencies and skills with pedagogical practices that align with the mission and vision of the school.
  • Prepare curriculum and lesson plans following Next Generation Science Standards and/or standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
  • Incorporate differentiation and varied strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners.
  • Collaborate with other department members in developing and updating the Science curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Prepare and administer formative and summative assessments of students� deeper learning according to the Mid-Pacific Assessment Guidelines
  • Record and post student grades electronically in a timely manner.
  • Maintain effective classroom management, liaising with deans and parents as necessary.
  • Participate in faculty and departmental meetings and attend professional development workshops and educational conferences.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians as needed.
  • Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities.
  • Determine budget needs and purchase equipment and materials for courses taught.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess, if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
  • Provides in-person classroom instruction, supervision, and support to students during the school day.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.
