About The Position

North Hudson Academy is seeking a full-time High School Science Teacher to work with students with special needs at a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school. The school serves students with behavioral and emotional issues, preschool handicaps, and learners on the Autism Spectrum. The teacher delivers modified science instruction to students with disabilities in grades 9–12, develops and implements IEP-aligned lessons, supports students’ behavioral and academic growth, and collaborates with related service providers and families to promote student success. The role is part of the Instructional team and reports to the school principal. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.; the posting notes evenings and weekends off.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Special Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
NJ Teacher of the Handicapped Certification, or Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification and Teacher of Science.
Experience working with children with disabilities.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

Plan and carry out each student’s IEP and instructional program.
Plan and manage the school’s therapeutic approach to individual and group discipline.
Coordinate and schedule activities with other staff.
Maintain and inventory classroom supplies and instructional materials.
Keep required records.
Write reports, meet with parents and professionals, and share professional information about individual students as required.
Participate in school meetings, conferences, and in-service activities.
