About The Position

The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW Academy) is seeking a passionate, part-time High School Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role is central to GLOW's mission of providing a "whole girl" education, fostering leadership, confidence, and academic rigor within a college preparatory framework. The academy emphasizes leadership development, early college and career awareness, health and wellness, and expanded opportunities in STEM and the arts. GLOW Academy is committed to recruiting and retaining high-caliber educators who are dedicated to the school's mission and students. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about learning, content immersion, collaborative curriculum development, and building strong family and community partnerships. A passion for single-gender education and closing the achievement gap for girls is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching North Carolina State Standards for high school science, be comfortable in a diverse and evolving learning environment, and possess a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.

Requirements

  • NC Teacher Certification in the subject area and relevant grades.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach middle school and/or high school grades 6-12 with a passion for and competency in the appropriate subject area.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implement positive behavior practices, and build strong relationships with students and families to support student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate rigorous and engaging lessons aligned to the content standards outlined in the NC Standard Course of Study.
  • Awareness of educational issues regarding the academic and social development of a diverse population of students, including minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent girls from high needs neighborhoods/communities.
  • Possession of a valid TB test issued by the local county board of health or recognized medical authority is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching 8th grade Science and preparing students to take the 8th grade Science EOG.

Responsibilities
