About The Position

Promise Academy II High School, part of the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) Promise Academy network of top-performing K-12 charter schools, is seeking a Science Teacher. This role is crucial in supporting HCZ Promise Academy's mission to ensure all scholars achieve college enrollment and completion. The ideal candidate will possess a deep commitment to children, a respect for Harlem's community culture, and a strong desire to make a significant impact. The Science Teacher will be responsible for designing and delivering dynamic, standards-aligned lesson plans that stimulate curiosity and promote mastery of grade-level science content. They will assess student progress through various methods, including exams, projects, and written assignments, to tailor instruction and drive continuous improvement. Maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations is key, motivating all students to reach their full potential. The teacher will employ a variety of teaching strategies, such as direct instruction, hands-on projects, and group activities, to effectively engage and challenge students. Collaboration with teaching assistants and colleagues is essential for addressing individual student needs and cultivating a supportive learning environment. Furthermore, building robust relationships with students, parents, and fellow educators is vital for fostering a culture of trust, open communication, and academic achievement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Science (Grades 5-9 or 7-12) required
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in an urban school setting
