About The Position

Top Score Education is seeking an experienced High School Math Tutor & Instructional Coach to join their team full-time in the Washington, DC metro area. This dual-role position combines high-level, direct student instruction with internal educator development. The role involves 75% in-home tutoring, delivering targeted, high-impact 1-on-1 tutoring for high school math courses, with a heavy emphasis on advanced levels through AP Calculus AB and BC. The remaining 25% is dedicated to instructional coaching, where the individual will mentor, coach, and support the team of academic tutors to elevate instructional quality, refine pedagogical strategies, and support tutor retention. This position requires full-time availability (approximately 30–40 hours per week), combining after-school/evening/weekend in-home tutoring sessions with flexible administrative and coaching hours.

Requirements

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring high school math.
• Mastery of advanced high school mathematics through AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC is required.
• Demonstrated experience coaching, evaluating, or mentoring teachers or tutors (e.g., as a department chair, instructional coach, master teacher, or mentor).
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Based in the Washington, DC metro area with reliable access to a vehicle and willingness to travel up to 40 minutes for in-home tutoring sessions.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.

• A degree in Mathematics, Math Education, STEM, or a related field—along with a teaching credential or Master’s/Ph.D.—is strongly preferred.

• Primary tutoring hours occur during after-school/evening hours (weekdays 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM) and weekends.
• We seek candidates looking for a multi-year commitment (2–3 years minimum).

Responsibilities

• Deliver 60-to-90-minute private, in-home tutoring sessions for high school students across the DMV in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus AB and BC.
• Create customized, outcome-driven lesson plans aligned with student school curricula, learning styles, and academic goals.
• Maintain proactive, consistent, and positive communication with parents and students to build trust, report progress, and foster strong relationships.
• Track long-term student growth and refine instructional strategies throughout the school year.
• Coach, mentor, and evaluate academic tutors across various subjects to improve instructional delivery, session management, and client retention.
• Conduct session observations, review tutor session feedback, and provide actionable, constructive guidance.
• Collaborate with the Director of Training and Curriculum to design training materials, lead professional development workshops, and assist in onboarding new tutors.
• Serve as a pedagogical sounding board for tutors navigating complex student needs or challenging subject matter.
