About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of charter schools dedicated to preparing students from underserved communities for college and beyond. This position is for one of our two high schools in Philadelphia, both of which are highly ranked. The role involves implementing a standards-aligned curriculum, driving critical thinking, and fostering high achievement in the classroom, with an emphasis on feedback and instructional coaching.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid state teaching certification, or a clear ability and commitment to obtain certification
• Strong content-area knowledge and instructional skill
• Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a work ethic and collaborative spirit
• Minimum of two years of successful experience working with diverse student populations

Responsibilities

• Teach 2 sections of Algebra and manage a caseload of students as a part of our special education team.
• Foster a classroom environment grounded in critical thinking, academic rigor, mutual respect, and high expectations for all students.
• Implement high-quality, content-specific curriculum and design instructional materials that promote deep thinking and problem-solving.
• Maintain consistent, proactive communication with families regarding student progress and relevant school updates.
• Engage fully in professional development and collaborate closely with colleagues to best support student learning and growth.
• Teachers hired at Freire Charter High School (20th & Chestnut St.) have the opportunity to be CREW Leaders and will co-lead a class focusing on SEL and community building twice a week.
