About The Position

AECOM is seeking a High School Intern to work in the AECOM offices located in Downtown Los Angeles or in the City of Orange. The internship will begin in mid-June 2026 and is expected to end by August 2026, hours vary during the summer period. Students will complete assignments focused on their specific interests while exposing them to a wide variety of professions in the design and construction industry. Hands-on practical experience is a fundamental aspect of preparing a student for a career, and we believe this is best achieved through a variety of activities with mentors representing the various disciplines in our industry.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school or spring 2026 high school graduate.
  • Must have completed two years of study (rising Junior or above).

Nice To Haves

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in the AEC (Architecture – Engineering – Construction) fields or in the Built Environment.

Responsibilities

  • Shadowing various disciplines – architects/designers, building engineers, scientists, project managers, construction personnel, economists, environmental engineers, cost estimators, and business/ management (marketing, legal, financial) to learn about each discipline. This will be both virtual and in-person.
  • Shadowing BIM technicians, project engineers, field engineers, and AECOM’s Digital Technology group to learn about the technological side of construction, including introductory or even advanced training in relevant software.
  • After the necessary safety training, touring project construction sites, taking photos of work in progress to compile visual documentation of the project and complete site observation reports.
  • Shadowing Project Managers and taking minutes for various meetings.
  • Spending time with trade/material vendors, and helping the architects and designers update materials libraries and collections.
  • Completing First Aid Certification and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Certification.
  • Learning how to read plans and organize a construction drawing set. They are taught to update plans for projects in construction, with RFIs and revisions to keep a current set.
  • Accessing AECOM University, which provides over 5,000 AECOM courses to explore technical topics.
