About The Position

This is an entry-level position for a high school student, intended to mentor and teach the basics of diesel mechanics and provide experience in a shop environment. The intern performs light maintenance and repairs, including lube, oil, and filter changes; tire balancing and rotation; and cooling-system flushes. The role also supports Service Technicians with heavy-duty truck repairs and completes assigned work in accordance with dealership and factory standards.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in the senior year of high school.
Must have a valid driver license.
Must be able to work while maintaining the mandatory school schedule.
Must be able to obtain a work permit from the school board.
Ability to perform light maintenance and repairs, including lube, oil, and filter changes; tire balancing and rotation; and cooling-system flushes.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Frequently work crouched or lying on a mechanic's dolly beneath motor vehicles, and reach and work overhead.

Responsibilities

Perform work listed on repair orders efficiently and accurately, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
Assist Service Technicians with heavy-duty truck repairs.
Attend training sessions to gain knowledge and experience.
Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Neatly record a job summary for assigned repairs.
Participate in required educational training as assigned by the Service Manager.
Complete required trainings within the designated timeframe.
Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
Save and tag parts for warranty jobs or when requested by the customer.
Document all work performed on repair orders.
Keep the supervisor informed of machinery defects or malfunctions.
Maintain and be accountable for dealership-owned tools and manuals.
Operate all tools and equipment safely.
Attend company trainings as required.
Maintain and clean vehicles and the surrounding shop area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
