About The Position

The Chelsea Public Schools District is seeking qualified individuals to serve as High School Head Coaches for Spring Sports for the SY26-27 school year. Available positions include Spring Track Head Coach, Baseball Head Coach, Softball Head Coach, Boys Volleyball Head Coach, and Flag Football Head Coach, each with a stipend of $5700. The role involves coaching student-athletes, teaching skills, enforcing discipline and sportsmanship, and adhering to league rules and regulations. Coaches are expected to create a supportive environment, manage equipment, complete necessary documentation, and attend required meetings. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Previous related work experience with children in an education setting may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Previous experience coaching in a similar sport strongly preferred.
  • Must possess teaching and coaching techniques appropriate to the sport assigned.
  • Current Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED and Concussion.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED and Concussion training required.
  • Must be available to attend activities, practices and meetings outside of school hours as necessary.
  • Certification as required by MIAA.
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience coaching in a similar sport strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches individual participants in basic and advanced skills necessary for maximum individual achievement in the applicable sport.
  • Provides leadership to athletic team.
  • Teaches, monitors and enforces appropriate standards of discipline and sportsmanlike behavior.
  • Monitors adherence by athletes to the rules and regulations of the MIAA.
  • Follows the Coaches Responsibilities and Expectations – attached (adapted from MIAA Sportsmanship Manual).
  • Assists the Athletic Director in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in-season and adhering to the schedule set by the Athletic Director.
  • Keeps up to date with any necessary training for assigned sport.
  • Attends regular coach meetings organized by the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal to discuss student eligibility, practice schedules, practice locations, documentation, equipment needs, and any general concerns or questions.
  • Creates an environment where students are supported and encouraged to participate in the athletics program.
  • Adheres to practice schedules, student practice rules and medical compliance as required by the league.
  • Strictly upholds and enforces standards and rules of athletic program, especially safety rules and standards.
  • Sets appropriate boundaries for students based on school rules.
  • Models positive behavior and fair play for students.
  • Instructs students in the proper use of equipment and sets up equipment for practice and games.
  • Notifies Athletic Director in a timely manner of any misuse of athletic equipment and need for any replacement equipment.
  • Completes all necessary documentation for students to participate in the Athletics program and ensures all documentation is submitted by deadlines.
  • Assists, as needed, in planning and executing an awards party for students at the end of the school year.
  • Attends all necessary meetings relating to the Athletics Program.
  • Keeps Athletic Director up to date on games, practices, and issues or concerns related to assigned sport.
