About The Position
Excel Academy is seeking a Founding High School English Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Excel Academy is a network of 5 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island serving students in grades 5-12, preparing them for high school, college, and community engagement. The majority of their 1,700 students identify as Latinx or Hispanic and are first-generation college aspirants. Excel students consistently outperform their peers in growth and achievement and are five times more likely to graduate from college. The school emphasizes high expectations, rigorous instruction, and individualized support to ensure student success. The high school is nationally ranked, preparing students for college and career paths. The teaching team is characterized by positivity, a drive for growth, mutual support, and strong belief in student potential.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is required
- Rhode Island certified (Secondary English 6-12) or in the process of obtaining certification
- Share a commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model
- Committed to addressing racial and economic inequity in education
- Work effectively in a team environment and have a willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work
- Open to change, willing to problem-solve, and seek feedback for your own professional growth and improvement

- A Master’s degree is preferred
Responsibilities
- Teach English to the Founding class of 9th grade students
- Collaborate with department members on curriculum refinement and implementation
- Design and implement rigorous assessments that evaluate student mastery of academic standards
- Create a safe learning environment for all students by implementing Excel’s strategies and best practices with consistency
- Provide coverage as needed during non-instructional time
- Serve as a productive member of the Excel Academy community
- Do whatever it takes to ensure the mission of the school is upheld
Benefits
- Salary $50,000-$81,000 commensurate with experience
